A PhD student who turned up at a North East train station to meet a child for sex is behind bars after he was caught in a police sting. Sarath Sivaji thought he had made arrangements to meet a 14-year-old boy but the profile he had been communicating with was controlled by a law enforcement officer.

Newcastle Crown Court that when Sivaji messaged to say he was at the meeting point at Newcastle Central Station in February police swooped and arrested him. The married dad, 38, of Knoll Court, Newcastle, admitted arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and now been jailed for 30 months. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for 15 years, reports Chronicle Live .
