GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The Center for Family Violence Prevention is cutting multiple services and laying off employees as part of a restructuring effort, leaving some domestic violence victims at risk of homelessness.
The nonprofit is eliminating its transitional housing service, which pays rent for eight women to help them rebuild their lives after leaving abusive situations.
Multiple employees said the organization is also returning hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grant money to the government.
“We are worse than their abusers. We put these women in more desperate situations than some of us found them in,” said Stephanie Kerr, the nonprofit’s housing coordinator.
