DES MOINES, Iowa —

A popular Des Moines music venue will be closing after 10 years in the Drake neighborhood.

The owners of Lefty's Live Music posted on Facebook that the venue will close before the end of the year.

"Lefty’s Live Music has been an incredible journey, one full of friendship, magic and music," Anne Mathy and Erik Brown wrote. "As we did with the passing of our namesake, we will mourn the loss but also celebrate the life. Though we might have unlocked the doors, it was the blood, sweat and tears of the Des Moines music community that breathed life and love into this building."

Mathy and Brown named the venue after their three-legged rescue dog, Lefty. After years of being the Lefty's Live Music mascot, Lefty died in 2022 at the age of 15 .
