LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentuckiana residents raised more than $45,600 during the WHAS11 telethon for Dare to Care on Wednesday.

That money will provide more than 91,000 meals for local families facing food insecurity following the government shutdown and frozen SNAP benefits.

The 14-hour telethon, which began at 5 a.m., saw overwhelming community support as phones rang continuously throughout the day.

"I got the opportunity to start at 5 a.m. and that phone started ringing at 5:06 a.m.," Ann Brown, chief people officer for Dare to Care, said.

Ursula Mullins, the nonprofit's chief impact officer, added that by the afternoon, "the phone was ringing off the hook."
