Wirt County further cemented its legacy as a volleyball powerhouse on Thursday at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

The top-seeded Tigers won their 14th state championship by topping second-seeded Gilmer County 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-12, 25-10) in the WVSSAC Class A state tournament title match.

Katie Frazier won her second state crown as leader of the Tigers, with the other coming in 2020. Her mother, Janet, presided over the other 12 Wirt County championships.

"For me, personally, it was, 'OK, we can finally breathe,' and I think the girls were the same way," Katie Frazier said. "We talked about, 'Don't give up any points. You're not done until the scoreboard says 25.' So, even if it's 24-10 or whatever it was, it was very much, 'You're not done. Push until the last point.'"
