One in seven (14.1%) American homes are uninsured, according to an Insurify analysis of data from the American Community Survey (ACS) 2024 1-Year Estimates. In the states most vulnerable to climate catastrophes, that ratio rises to 1 in 6 (16.2%).
For this analysis, Insurify defines “uninsured” as homeowners who reported spending less than $100 annually on home insurance — meaning they likely aren’t buying coverage at all. A mix of unaffordability and climate risk likely explains this lack of coverage. 1
