ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - After nearly a month and a half, travelers and government workers can breathe a sigh of relief, as the federal shutdown has come to an end.
However, Kelly Keating, local 2065 president of the American Federation of Government Employees, remains cautious about the decision.
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” she said. “Things change daily here.”
Keating said she doesn’t believe anything until she sees government workers paid, and hopes they aren’t paid in one check due to higher taxes.
“I hope that our government workers are never used as pawns again for some political game,” Keating said.
Over the last several weeks, holiday travel has been a concern for many travelers. But now that the shutdown has ended, people have a newfound respect for airport workers.
