FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It's important for men to take charge of their health.
"Men need a little bit of a community," said Dr. Sami Mostafa, a urologist with California Urology. "I think a little bit of dismantling any stigma and having a community, a non-judgmental community, is really key to men's health."
Numbers from the CDC showed that in 2023, nearly 15% of men over the age of 18 were in fair or poor health. The agency also reported that one of the leading causes of death for men included cancer.
That's why getting prostate cancer screenings is one way for men to be proactive in their health.
"Globally, it affects about 1 in 8 men, which is about 12%," said Dr. Mostafa. "That's our fathers, our brothers or even ourselves sometimes."
