Evacuation warnings are now in effect for several regions in Southern California as a storm is expected to bring heavy rain, raising concerns about mudslides and debris flows in areas affected by recent wildfires. Los Angeles County officials have urged residents in these areas to be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. The evacuation warnings cover the following burn scar areas: Canyon, Bethany, Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, Kenneth, Sunset, Lidia, Franklin, and Bridge. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that emergency resources will be deployed ahead of the storm to safeguard communities in Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties from potential mudslides and debris flows. The storm, classified as a moderate atmospheric river, is expected to impact Northern and Central California, as well as parts of Washington and Oregon, starting Thursday. Heavy rainfall is forecasted to reach the Bay Area and Sacramento on Thursday morning, with some areas anticipating up to 4 inches of rain. The storm will then move southward, affecting Los Angeles late Thursday into Friday morning. Flood watches have been issued for much of Central and Southern California, including Los Angeles and San Diego, for Friday and Saturday. Rainfall is expected to continue across Southern California on these days, with estimates of 1 to 3 inches in many areas. Higher elevations, particularly around Santa Barbara, could see between 4 to 6 inches of rain over the weekend, increasing the risk of rockslides, landslides, and debris flows. In addition to the rain, below-average temperatures are anticipated in Southern California, with scattered showers possible from Sunday through at least Tuesday. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has advised residents in burn or flood-prone areas to avoid flood channels, catch basins, canyons, and waterways that are susceptible to flooding. If evacuation is necessary, residents should only return home after local authorities have confirmed it is safe. The evacuation warnings will remain in effect through Sunday, according to officials.
