Trucks were seen entering the northern Gaza Strip through the Zikim border crossing on Thursday, two months after it was shut by Israel.
COGAT, the Israeli military’s arm that oversees aid flows, said Wednesday that it would reopen the crossing to allow humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, an entry point that would provide a vital channel to get aid to the north.
An Associated Press reporter, however, said many of the trucks are carrying commercial goods instead of aid.
Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told reporters Wednesday that the U.N. is "substantially" increasing humanitarian aid into the territory.
Though some supplies have entered the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire went into effect last month, the need still exceeds the amount of aid reaching people.
Israel also said Thursday that militants in Gaza have handed over a body believed to be a hostage.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Red Cross turned over a body it received from militants.
The armed wings of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad said the body of an Israeli hostage was recovered in southern Gaza.
