COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Lee County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to restructure Smiths Station’s four elementary schools by grade level instead of location, responding to declining student enrollment over the past decade.
Starting at the beginning of the 2026 school year, students will attend different schools based on their grade rather than their neighborhood. Pre-K will be housed at South Smiths Station Elementary, kindergarten and first grade at West Smiths Station Elementary, second and third grade at East Smiths Station Elementary, and fourth and fifth grade at Wacoochee Elementary.
The change moves away from the current system of four pre-K through fifth grade schools to one school designated for every two grade levels.
