COLUMBUS, Ohio -The number of school-based health centers is on the rise in Ohio, after the General Assembly provided $20 million to expand the clinics over the next two years.
School-based health centers are housed on the grounds of a school—either inside the school building or in a separate structure. They’re open to students, their families, school staff and sometimes members of the community.
Their goal is to improve access to health care – especially in communities where access is limited – in an environment that the school community trusts, Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff said during a Thursday briefing with reporters.
