TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Catching up after the longest government shutdown on record, air traffic controllers will be made whole for the pay they should have received.
But the national airspace system remains far from complete when it comes to staffing.
Cancellations and delays continued the day after the shutdown ended, which was possibly a result of scheduling before Congress’s vote, with two weeks before Thanksgiving and less than that before the surrounding travel season takes off.
“Yeah, I’m happy they ended the shutdown,” said Melanie Scott before she boarded a flight for Dallas on her way home to the Texas Hill Country.
“Excitement, right? Ready to go home. The alternative was driving all the way back,” said Jonathan Rice before he boarded a flight to Texas.
