EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Even though the government shutdown has ended, families in the Tri-State are still feeling the impact, especially when it comes to food assistance.
“We had over 9,000 households in Vanderburgh county alone that didn’t get their SNAP benefits as of November 1st,” Lisa Vaughan, director of Feed Evansville said.
Many families relying on SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, were left waiting for assistance. It’s just one of the many consequences of a historic and record-breaking 43-day government shutdown.
“Our system is not designed to replace SNAP in it’s totality. Keep in mind for every meal that Tri-State Food Bank and our 180 partners in the 33 counties that we serve can provide, 9 meals is what SNAP provides,” Zac Heronemus, CEO of Tri-State Food Bank sa
