LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A driver in a reported stolen SUV sped dangerously on surface streets and nearly hit other vehicles on the road during a chaotic chase through the San Fernando Valley Thursday evening.

AIR7 was over the pursuit just before 5:20 p.m. as the driver fled Los Angeles police. It appeared LAPD later pulled back from the chase while the suspect weaved in and out of traffic at high speeds.

Around 5:30 p.m., the driver ditched the SUV near an apartment complex in the area of Variel Avenue and Oxnard Street in Woodland Hills. He got out of the car, jumped a wall and began running onto the property of the complex.

Officers later apprehended the suspect when he was found hiding in a bathroom.

The chase went through several neighborhoods including Encino, Reseda and Tarzana.
