CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Colombian American Chamber of Commerce of the Carolinas has postponed a cultural event scheduled for this weekend, citing concerns about increased immigration enforcement operations in the Charlotte area.
The chamber announced Wednesday that "Raíces y Sabores" (Roots and Flavors), planned for Saturday, Nov. 15 at Provenza CLT, has been canceled until further notice.
The decision comes as federal officials confirmed to Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry L. McFadden that U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel will arrive in the Charlotte area as early as Saturday or early next week, according to a statement from the sheriff's office Thursday.
Charlotte is expected to be the first city where Border Patrol will spearhead immigration enforcement without coordinating
