INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KWWL) - The Independence Fire Department says one of the victims rescued from an apartment fire Wednesday morning has died.

First responders arrived at the apartment just after midnight in the 600 block of 2nd Avenue Northeast. Three people were rescued from inside and taken to the hospital. Two of them were later airlifted to trauma centers due to the severity of their injuries.

The department says the victim died from complications of their injuries. Their name is not being released out of respect to privacy for the family.
