The Montreal Canadiens will attempt to dig themselves out of a pretty steep hole without one of their forwards.
Alex Newhook left Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars with a lower-body injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game while he undergoes evaluation, the Canadiens announced.
The incident happened early in the second period as Newhook was chasing a puck into the Stars’ end on the forecheck. He was tripped up and went feet-first into the end boards.
The 24-year-old appeared to be in immediate pain and was helped off the ice by teammates.
Through 16 games this season, the centreman has six goals and six assists while averaging 15:11 on ice per game.
Newhook, in his third season with the Canadiens, won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
