CAMDEN, Maine — Fifty-two seniors living in a manufactured home community in Camden faced an uncertain future because the water and sewer systems in their resident-owned community were on the verge of failure.
Thanks to federal, state, and local funding, the Mountainside Community Cooperative now has a new water system and is hooked up to Camden's municipal sewer system.
Residents now feel they have stable homes in a housing market that many people can't afford.
Margaret Jones moved to this manufactured home community near Mt. Battie almost 10 years ago. She picked it because it was affordable and had a park-like feel.
"It's a true community where neighbors look after neighbors," Jones enthused.
This 55+ community has 52 residents. They bought the park together in 2019.
