MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Additional National Guard troops deployed Thursday to begin patrolling Memphis neighborhoods.
Between 140 and 180 additional troops will be in the city patrolling and working alongside Memphis police, according to a source familiar with the Memphis Safe Task Force.
That is on top of the 150 members of the Tennessee National Guard already in the city.
The total number of troops in the city is expected to increase to about 350, according to sources.
The Memphis Safe Task Force was announced by President Trump on September 12 and began operations inside Memphis city limits later that month.
More than 2,500 arrests have been made since the task force’s arrival.
