An interim childcare facility will open at Latrobe to temporarily replace a centre set to close before Christmas.

Lady Gowrie Tasmania (LGT) has confirmed it will open and operate a temporary facility on Gilbert Street from February 2026.

This comes after LGT received funding from the state and federal governments and support from the Latrobe Council.

"We will continue to provide regular updates and remain on the ground in Latrobe, working closely with Council, families, staff and key stakeholders to keep the community informed," LGT said.

"Our focus is on putting children first, supporting families, and securing local jobs in the region."

The facility will offer reprieve for families affected by the closure of St Patrick's Child Care, which will cease operations on December 24.
