LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Nearly two months after a scary fall at Churchill Downs, jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. was back in the Winner's Circle this week.
Hernandez was rushed to the hospital after being thrown off his colt during the third race on Sept. 21.
His family said he had seven broken ribs, a collapsed lung, lacerated liver, and bleeding. He had surgery to repair his liver and another surgery to plate five of his ribs.
After taking some time off to recover, Hernandez found his way back on the track and into the Winner's Circle. He rode Sir Greylind during Race 8 on Wednesday, taking home the win by a margin of 1 and 3/4 lengths.
This race marked Hernandez' return to racing after the fall.
Hernandez rode Thorpedo Anna to win the 2024 Kentucky Oaks and just the day after rode Mystik Dan
