BEREA, Ohio -- The beat went on for George Kiteley Nov. 9 as the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of the Performing Arts and the Strongsville Community Band joined forces to celebrate the late musician’s life and legacy.
The concert also marked the announcement of the George L. Kiteley Memorial Scholarship, created by an anonymous donor to support BW percussion students with financial need in perpetuity.
Kiteley, who died Sept. 10, became BW’s first full-time professor in 1971, a position he held until his retirement in 2000.
During nearly three decades at the university, he built a strong percussion program, directed the Jazz Band for 20 years and founded Battu, a world music ensemble-in-residence.
Kiteley and his late wife, Janiece, shared BW’s Bechberger Award for Human Development in
