OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Volunteers at the Heartland Humane Society are working to clear space for more kennels indoors this week as colder temperatures approach.

Assistant Manager Courtney Monohon said the shelter added eight new kennels thanks to donations and partnerships and refurbished a few more.

“We kind of took pieces from other kennels that we had like extra pieces and made pretty much handmade ones,” said Monohon.

The shelter is now trying to find a place to put the new kennels ahead of colder temperatures.

“We’ve currently cleared out every room we possibly clear out all of our food next door is completely moved to a whole other building because we had to use those room and put kennels.”
