RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - GOP state legislative leaders sent a letter to Gov. Josh Stein today saying his call for an extra session to fund Medicaid is unconstitutional.

Today, state Senator Phil Berger and state House Speaker Destin Hall announced that the extra session will not proceed.

According to the letter , Stein made the request while the General Assembly is already in session.

Last Thursday, Stein met with Medicaid patients and providers, calling for the state General Assembly to reconvene Monday to reverse budget cuts.

Berger said that the General Assembly gave the Department of Health and Human Services $600 million to fund Medicaid, and DHHS used $100 million of that amount for administrative costs.
