The trial of Brandy Dowdy, a Red Bay woman charged with manslaughter in the dog mauling deaths of Michelle Sheeks and Summer Beard, continued Thursday. The state rested after seven days of testimony and more than 20 witnesses.
Dowdy's daughter, Abriana McMillian, was the first witness called by the defense.
McMillian testified about the night of Sheeks' mauling and discussed the presence of dogs on their family property. She claimed that people have been known to drop dogs in their area and that her mother was not the only one feeding them.
During this trial the lead investigator testified that the dogs belonged to Dowdy and caused the deadly injuries. However, during cross-examination, the investigator could not confirm which specific dog was responsible.
