A 44-year-old Calgary man is facing child pornography charges after an undercover sting by a Guelph police officer.

Guelph police said in early September, an officer posed as a 13-year-old girl and began an online chat with a man, during which the man sent photos of himself and spoke of wanting to meet the underage girl for sex.

Police learned the man was in Calgary and the investigation file was sent to Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s (ALERT) internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The man was arrested Wednesday and is facing several charges, including making and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation material (formerly known as child pornography), and luring a child under 16.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
