OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An opening date is finally set for Omaha’s new Central Library.

The building at 72nd and Dodge will open to the public on April 19.

It’s largely empty now; there are still no books, and some landscaping work needs to be done.

What’s complete shows a library completely different than what we’ve seen before in the city.

Out of all the spaces in this newest library in Omaha, the mezzanine is Michael McCarthy’s favorite.

“This is my favorite spot,” Michael said. “You see the 50-foot ceilings, but you also see how activated it is.”

He collected donations for this library totaling $140 million.

“I’ve never seen this space filled with people, which is what it’s created for.”
