ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - On Thursday, volunteers with the nonprofit HealthChex Cares delivered food to East Point residents who are struggling from the effects of the government shutdown.
“I’m late on my utilities bill. I have no food,” East Point resident Tonya Harris said.
“It has been horrible,” said East Point resident Edreione Newman.
The shutdown officially ended late Wednesday night, but the impacts of the 43-day closure will linger into the future.

“You have federal employees who have not worked and not received a paycheck in 40 days. We have people who have not received their SNAP benefits,” East Point Councilman Joshua Butler said.
