DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (WMC) - There’s no answer when you call DeSoto County Crime Stoppers number; the tip line appears to have been disconnected. And Crime Stoppers Director Larry Holland didn’t pick up when Action News 5 called his taxpayer-funded cell phone.

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White visited DeSoto County Thursday to meet with government leaders to discuss the scathing Crime Stoppers audit his office released this week.

“60% of the money that the nonprofit spent actually went to salaries,” White told Action News 5, “There was nothing in our audit that showed any kind of criminal activity at Crime Stoppers. What it was, was a ton of money going to salaries, a ton of money being spent and not a lot of documentation about whether Crime Stoppers was an effective entity at all.
