MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Members of the Middleburg Heights Women’s Club collected 1,000 pounds of plastic film in five months through the NexTrex Recycling Challenge, earning a recycled bench that now sits inside the Middleburg Heights Community Center.
The project was part of a national program that encourages community groups to collect hard-to-recycle plastic film in exchange for outdoor benches made from recycled materials.
For Susan Mohnickey, a member of the club’s Civic Interest Committee, the effort began with an idea she brought to her fellow members.
“We were inspired by the program’s mission to give new life to plastic that can’t be recycled through curbside pickup,” Mohnickey said.
