MAYVILLE — The Lewy Lee Fieldhouse nearly reached a boiling point in Set 2 of Thursday night's Region 2A championship.
Carrington had captured the first set and was fighting to recapture the lead over May-Port-C-G in the second, but junior Paetyn Strand and the Patriots wouldn't let it happen.
Sandwiched between two stands filled with raucous fans, Strand helped make block after block at the net, stymieing the Cardinals attacks. Each stop drew a fresh set of gasps and cheers from the crowd, and when May-Port-C-G's Kylie Kroeplin finally secured the point with a kill, the crowd erupted.
"When I get a block, or anyone at the net, it just builds our confidence," Strand said. "Just really helps get us going to get a kill."
In firm control of momentum, the Patriots went on to win set two 25
