For years, electric and telephone companies have bogged down broadband expansion projects in West Virginia with delays and excessive costs to attach internet lines to utility poles. West Virginia’s state broadband director even warned the Legislature last year that pole attachment delays are the single biggest threat to our state’s broadband goals.
Now, with West Virginia just months away from a long-awaited influx of federal broadband funding, state utility regulators have joined West Virginia’s elected leaders in sending pole owners a clear, emphatic message: illegal delays and unlawful charges will no longer be tolerated.
