Big Splash will remain shut this summer after its owners abandoned their plans to reopen by mid‑November, blaming rising repair costs.
The water park was due to reopen by mid-November 2025 after being directed by ACT officials to repair and maintain the site, which has languished in a state of disrepair since closing over the summer of 2023-24.
Through consultant firm Purdon, the owners said in a statement that they "regret" not being able to open this summer.
"Unfortunately, significant vandalism and the escalating cost of repairing aging infrastructure have made reopening the existing pool prohibitive," the statement said.
" Rather than investing in short-term fixes, the focus will be on creating a new, modern facility that meets community needs and is sustainable for the future. "
