After the longest government shutdown in American history, things have reopened in Washington and in agencies across the country. The stopgap bill passed by lawmakers and signed by President Trump will only fund the government until the end of January, but for many aspects of agriculture, this bill goes a lot further.
“It’s very unfortunate that we had to go 40 days in order to resolve this shutdown, and on behalf of our membership, I am just relieved that it’s over,” said Brad Bales, senior director of state and national policy with Ohio Farm Bureau. “There were a lot of difficulties when it came to accessing certain programs or loans and working with the local FSA office, but I will say that USDA did a really good job of making sure that their offices were ma
