ELLENSBURG, Wash. – As winter approaches, the city of Ellensburg is urging residents to avoid using road salt on the newly installed 2.5 miles of curb and sidewalk.
The city explained that salt and other de-icing chemicals could significantly damage the fresh concrete, which takes several months to cure.
Safer alternatives for traction include sand or kitty litter. De-icers made of calcium magnesium acetate are also recommended.
