Jammu, Nov 14: BJP candidate Devyani Rana surged ahead in the Nagrota Assembly bypoll on Friday, opening a significant lead of 5,267 votes over her nearest rival, JKNPP’s Harsh Dev Singh, as counting entered its later stages.
By the end of the third round, Rana had secured 11,581 votes, while Singh stood at 4,280. National Conference candidate Shamim Begum followed with 2,464 votes.
Rana, daughter of late BJP MLA Devender Rana — whose passing necessitated the bypoll — maintained her lead from the very first round.
The constituency recorded a high voter turnout of over 75 percent in the November 11 polling. (Agencies)
