AIZAWL: DR. R. Lalthangliana of the Mizo National Front (MNF) won the Dampa Assembly by-election, securing 6,981 votes, an increase of 562 from previous counts. The results were announced on Thursday, with counting having begun at 8 am. The bypoll witnessed an impressive 83.07% voter turnout, with 17,351 voters — 8,921 men and 8,430 women — exercising their franchise out of a total electorate of 20,888. Postal ballots are yet to be added to the overall tally. Among the 41 polling stations, Hruiduk reported the highest turnout at 93.09% with 666 electors, while Zopui recorded the lowest at 75.86%, with only 30 voters casting their votes.
