The vocabulary around the Maple Leafs is starting to change. Words like “panic” and “urgency” are starting to pop up even though the season is just 18 games old.
“Panic is never going to help,” Leafs coach Craig Berube said. “But there’s a level of urgency, for sure. That’s been there for a bit. I’m not going to panic. That doesn’t help anything or anybody.”
It certainly didn’t help Thursday night that a team whose confidence is hanging on by a thread was without its captain, Auston Matthews , when the NHL’s best road team came for a visit. The result was a 4-3 overtime win by the Los Angeles Kings. The Leafs got their first point in four games but it came on a night when they surrendered 2-0 and 3-2 leads.
