Sophomore Madisyn Abella thought her year was over.
Immaculate Heart’s star scorer slid into an MRI machine a month ago and found out she had a partially torn tendon in her right ankle. Doctors floated out the idea of putting her under the knife - season-ending surgery.
Abella was devastated. She refused to entertain it.
That couldn’t happen.
Last month, Syracuse commit Ella Burkholder suffered a contusion and was forced to sit out too. The standout defender missed the Bergen County final. In a matter of weeks, Immaculate Heart was down two of its best players.
Burkholder wasn’t going to let that injury define her senior season.
That couldn’t happen.
On Thursday, Immaculate Heart was whole again.
