Lady Gaga says she is “really lucky to be alive” after suffering a psychotic mental health crisis and taking lithium while filming the hit movie A Star Is Born.
The 39-year-old pop star, born Stefani Germanotta, said she was on the mood-stabilising medicine while working on the film that earned her an Oscar win for her song Shallow and a best actress nomination, but was later admitted to hospital.
Her mental health declined so much that the Abracadabra singer was forced to cancel her Joanne world tour in February 2018.
The crisis also preceded her headlining set during Super Bowl LI in Houston in February 2017.
“I did A Star Is Born on lithium. There was one day that my sister said to me, ‘I don’t see my sister anymore’,” she told Rolling Stone , where she features on the cover.
