Regions on Australia’s east coast have been told to brace for major storms that will pack a serious punch over the coming hours and deep into the weekend.

A severe thunderstorm warning is currently in place for Inglewood, Warwick, Texas and Stanthorpe in southern Queensland and Emmaville, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Inverell, Liston and Tingha in northern NSW .

The systems are set to deliver damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours, the Bureau of Meteorology ( BOM ) warned on Friday.
