This night against Horizon would be different for the Sunrise Mountain girls volleyball team.

The senior-heavy squad carried the scars of last year’s four-set loss to the Huskies in the 5A state final, plus elimination in Horizon’s gym in 2022 and 2023. #2 seed Sunrise Mountain also brought along some anger from a five-set upset loss to this Phoenix Horizon team to start the regular season.

These factors played into a truly dominant performance Nov. 13 in Peoria, a 25,17, 25-20, 25-12 rout of the four-time defending state champions.
