As per the latest development, an American lawmaker announced that she will be introducing a bill to “completely eliminate” the H-1B visa programme. In a video posted on X, Congresswoman from Georgia Marjorie Taylor Greene said the programme has been abused and has been displacing American workers for decades. Her proposal, once introduced, would fundamentally alter the future of the H-1B system, which is widely used by technology companies, healthcare institutions, and skilled professionals, including many Indian workers.

The H-1B visa currently allows US employers to hire foreign nationals in specialty occupations and offers a pathway to long-term residency through employer-sponsored Green Cards. Greene’s proposal, however, targets every part of this system.
