HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An environmental law firm contends that recent decisions made by the state Board of Land and Natural Resources may not be legally valid for lack of a certain kind of member.
“There is the requirement that BLNR have at least one member with expertise in conservation or natural resources,” said Earthjustice Associate Attorney Harley Broyles, who said it’s required by state law.
Aimee Barnes was a member of the BLNR and has a degree in natural resources management. But Gov. Josh Green didn’t reappoint her to another term in August.
“Instead, the governor appointed someone whose background is in housing and real estate development. And so the question is, is there anybody on the board who meets this legal requirement?” asked Jonathan Likeke Scheuer, who chairs Aha
