A would-be Royal assassin endured torture with scorching pincers, was ripped apart by horses and burnt alive in a horrific, drawn-out execution. ‌

Robert-Francois Damiens was born in 1715 in a northern French village and worked lowly positions, repeatedly getting sackedfor bad behaviour. ‌

Working in the homes of magistrates and officials, he grew convinced of the corruption amongst Royal advisers. ‌
