A would-be Royal assassin endured torture with scorching pincers, was ripped apart by horses and burnt alive in a horrific, drawn-out execution.
Robert-Francois Damiens was born in 1715 in a northern French village and worked lowly positions, repeatedly getting sackedfor bad behaviour.
Working in the homes of magistrates and officials, he grew convinced of the corruption amongst Royal advisers.
He spent his days believing the King and his religious leaders had denied holy rites to "good people who pray in churches ever
