Rockies' 26-year old righty pitcher leaves MLB contract to sign in Japan

A Colorado Rockies pitcher is taking his talents across the Pacific.

That's Roansy Contreras, who has signed a new contract in Japan.

The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles announced Thursday that they've signed Contreras to play in Nippon Professional Baseball.

Contreras was most recently with the Rockies, but they had announced his release earlier Thursday, preceding this move.

The righty reliever has spent portions of five seasons in the big leagues between the Pirates, Angels, Orioles and Rockies.
