England faces the prospect of widespread drought next year unless the winter brings substantial rainfall, the Environment Agency has cautioned.

The EA has said if England receives an average amount of rainfall over winter 2025, then most areas of the country will be in a normal or recovering condition by March 2026. However, this is the exception of Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire which will still be in prolonged dry conditions.

Yorkshire and the Midlands continue to experience drought following 2025's parched spring and summer alongside a series of heatwaves, whilst large parts of the nation remain in "exceptionally dry conditions" and the North West is presently in recovery.
