An Ocean County man entrusted with watching a French Bulldog fatally shot the animal, investigators said.
Officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department responded to a Lyford Court home shortly after 9 p.m. on Oct. 3 after a caller told them her one-year-old French Bulldog, Ruby, had died after they dropped her off at a family member’s house, according to a statement from the department.
Jeffrey Lentz, 56, of Berkeley Township, was watching Ruby and her owners told police they received a call that she had been injured and died from her wounds, police said.
A veterinarian examined Ruby and discovered that the dog had been shot in the face after an X-ray showed a bullet lodged in her jawbone, the department said.
Ruby was transported to the New Jersey Animal Health Diagnostics Lab
