There is nothing quite like a dive bar.
A proper one has a pool table or dart board, beer that is affordable, and food that's not fancy (popcorn is a bonus). There should be live music (or at least a jukebox), trivia nights, and sports on TV. You may even see lottery tickets and six-packs for sale.
But what truly makes a dive bar a dive bar is how you feel when you walk in. No matter how long you've been away, you're always welcome.
Here are more than a dozen great ones across New Jersey.
Georgies Bar, Asbury Park
Since opening its doors in 1999, Georgies has been known as a place where you can be yourself, whether that means singing karaoke, catching a concert or watching a drag show. Need a news break? Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!
